Wade has traveled extensively across the U.S., from Tennessee to Mississippi, leveraging his extensive knowledge of computer systems, psychology, business, and teaching to make a significant impact. After working in healthcare information systems, Wade transitioned to teaching at a local college. However, as an adjunct professor, he found himself without summer courses to teach and sought a meaningful way to fill his time.
A New Beginning with GetSetUp
Wade's search led him to GetSetUp, a platform that aligns perfectly with his passion for teaching and community building. "I thought this looks better. It is teaching and I like that. Plus it sounded fun," Wade shares about his decision to become a Guide. Joining as one of the first Guides at GetSetUp, Wade quickly developed his own teaching style that emphasizes a comfortable, interactive environment where learners feel encouraged to ask questions.
"I like to have it casual where people feel comfortable to ask and answer questions. I want to push people to ask questions. So I probe a lot and try to get them to ask questions. I think that is more important instead of just going through my agenda. My classes, I try to organize so people ask questions instead of just being given facts to remember," Wade explains. This approach, combined with his sense of humor, ensures that his classes are not only informative but also enjoyable.
Building a Community of Learners
Wade's passion for technology and his curiosity for learning have found a perfect home at GetSetUp. He enjoys learning alongside his participants, who often ask questions that challenge him to explore new topics. "I get to learn in classes all the time. I love when participants ask questions because then I learn too. I try to look up the answer after class and send in the follow-up email to everyone who was in the class," Wade notes.
This shared learning experience is what Wade finds most rewarding about GetSetUp. Unlike his college courses, where students are required to attend, the learners at GetSetUp are there out of genuine interest, whether it's to gain new skills or to enjoy the social aspects of the classes. "GetSetUp learners show up for some reason either to learn something or for the social aspect. So, they are engaged," Wade says.
A New Sense of Purpose
The engagement of his learners has made such a significant difference that Wade has decided to drop his college courses after the current semester to focus full-time on his role as a Guide at GetSetUp. He treasures the interactive nature of the classes and the sense of community that has formed among his learners.
"It's the interaction with the learners which is why I like it better than anything else I've done in a long time. I could do a YouTube video and post, but then I don't get the feedback. I don’t get to see the faces and see people smile as they say ‘Oh, I get it!’ Interacting with the people is the part I like best because I can see they are getting something out of it," Wade reflects.
Wade's journey with GetSetUp highlights the platform's power in fostering not only educational growth but also social connections, creating a vibrant community where learning is celebrated and everyone, including the Guides, benefits.
