When Elaine and her husband relocated to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, three years ago, one retiree was looking for a way to stay healthy and engaged without the hassle of a gym membership and lengthy travel to and from.

“Before we moved, I went to gyms more regularly,” she said. “But after COVID, I was looking for something to help me exercise at home.”

That’s when she discovered GetSetUp through her health plan, and she’s been using it ever since.

“I’ve been using it for three years. I like the convenience and the variety. I love that it’s available through my insurance company.”

Building Strength Without Leaving Home

At 70, she’s focused on maintaining her strength and flexibility with a consistent wellness routine that fits her lifestyle.

“I wouldn’t say I’ve felt a dramatic change, but I’ve been consistent. I used to do boot camps. Now, I’m just looking to maintain.”

With no gym nearby, online access to classes has been a game-changer.

“If it’s not close, I won’t go. But now, I don’t have to go looking for a gym. Everything’s here.”

She’s found favorite instructors like Guide Stacey and Guide Twyla, whose yoga, pilates, and core classes have become part of her weekly wellness habit.

“This morning, I did Twyla and Stacey’s classes. I’ve been following Stacey from the beginning. I look for anything that helps with core strength.”

She especially loves that the classes are short and flexible.

“I love that the classes are not an hour long. If they were, I probably wouldn’t take them. But a 20-minute class I can easily fit in. Sometimes I’ll combine 20-minute classes to even do an hour’s worth of movement because it feels more manageable.”

Creative Wellness Through Art and Food

It’s not just fitness keeping her engaged, but art and cooking classes are also a big part of her mental wellness.

“Deana’s the best. Her watercolor classes are my favorite right now.”

And the variety keeps Elaine coming back.

“I’ve signed up for things I’d never try at a local studio or community center, like makeup or eye classes. But here at home, I can see if it’s something I want to do.”

She’s also leaned into healthy cooking, using GetSetUp to shake up her routine.

“I’m always looking for healthy eating ideas. I get into a salad rut, and these classes help me change things up, especially this time of year. New salads, smoothies, fruit, avocado… it’s all good.”

Mental and Physical Health, At Any Hour

For her, the biggest benefit is how accessible the platform is.

“The big benefit is having it available anytime in your own home. I love that I can pop in later and watch on my schedule.”

On-demand access helps Elaine maintain balance across her mind and body.

“I’d say my health and well-being have improved, thanks to GetSetUp. Without it, I wouldn’t have these health and wellness resources. My husband and I walk a lot, but walking isn’t everything. The GetSetUp weights and art classes keep me active and involved. Mentally and physically, these classes are great.”

As someone who’s traveled abroad, she’s also looking for more U.S.-based travel-themed classes.

“I’d love to see more about national parks and what other states have to offer.”

And when asked for feedback? She didn’t hesitate.

“I wrote down my pros: love the instructors, watercolor studio, Frida Kahlo classes, yoga, crafts, the variety, and on-demand access. Cons? Zip. Nothing. I’m just glad that GetSetUp is offered, and I found it.”
