From her home in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, 66-year-old Derelyn is proving that it’s never too late to embrace new technology, rekindle curiosity, and reimagine what’s possible. A lifelong learner with a background in early childhood development, she sought a way to re-enter the workforce and maintain her mental acuity. That’s when she discovered GetSetUp and hasn’t looked back since.

Discovering a Safe Space to Learn

“I like GetSetUp, I really do… I’ve learned a lot,” Derelyn shared.

Her journey began with a curiosity about how to navigate the ever-evolving world of technology and the workforce. What she found was a platform that meets her right where she is.

“One of the things that helps me every day is the passkeys,” she explained. “Wade taught me that, and I like the passkeys and Google Keep Notes. Google is simpler than other apps, and I like that the Guides use jargon. It’s my age group, and no question is idiotic—they welcome the questions. They really encourage you to be interactive.”

That sense of psychological safety and empowerment was a game-changer.

“I’ve met lots of people that are my age and are very intimidated by tech, and I told them to do GetSetUp.”

Staying Healthy—Physically and Mentally

For Derelyn, technology isn’t just about keeping up—it’s about improving her whole well-being.

“My SilverSneakers helped me with my depression and gives me energy and more concentration,” she said. “To me, it keeps me out of that funk.”

She’s also found comfort and control through GetSetUp’s nutrition and travel classes.

“I like to get out and walk. I would like to take some of the nutrition classes, such as gluten-free bread. Everyone needs some kind of encouragement to transition to healthier habits.”

Sunday is now her “chill-out day,” when she turns to GetSetUp to learn something new, travel virtually, or join a recorded session.

“I want to catch up and stay abreast and re-incorporate that back into my life, at least once a week.”

Building Career Confidence with Tech

As someone exploring a return to work, Derelyn found GetSetUp to be a vital bridge.

“I started working part-time, and I’ve been revamping and staying up with technology,” she said. “Learning AI came from GetSetUp, and how to watch yourself and take precautions.”

She’s also used the platform to build confidence with tools like Microsoft Office, Excel, and Google Docs.

“I’m feeling more confident with Excel. It can be frustrating, but I use Google Docs a lot. I had to use Windows to do my resume.”

With help from classes on AI, digital safety, and even application tracking systems (ATS), Derelyn is adapting to modern work requirements.

“I got some tips on creating my CV and am looking for more on creating a portfolio. I would like to see something basic to teach us how to do a webpage—for a portfolio to put my journeys… that would be a great digital format.”

Advocating for the Future of Learning

Derelyn’s passion is clear: she believes digital confidence should be accessible to everyone, especially older adults.

“Whether we like it or not, the older generation, my generation, doesn’t have to be a YouTube influencer, but technology is part of life. If you are trying to navigate your medical charts, your banking, that’s all with technology now.”

She’s even encouraged others in caregiving roles to use GetSetUp as a way to take care of themselves, too.

“I help personal assistant caregivers and get them scheduled for screenings. They’re trying to navigate a system that isn’t set up for them to be successful… that’s not fair. But GetSetUp helps make technology useful.”

A Platform That Builds Skills—and Self-Esteem

From tech support to travel to mental health, Derelyn sees GetSetUp as much more than a digital learning platform.

 “GetSetUp keeps me more competent.”

Her favorite classes still include Wade’s tech tutorials.

“Wade’s classes are so important. My favorite of his classes is passkeys and notes. Using the passkeys and Google notes, I use them regularly.”

For Derelyn, learning isn’t just about staying relevant—it’s about reclaiming confidence and reimagining what’s possible.

“It keeps me out of that funk,” she repeated. “And that means everything.”
