Retirement is supposed to be the reward at the end of a long career, but the first months of it can be surprisingly hard to navigate. Kay spent her working years in sales and marketing for a direct marketing firm, a career she was good at and genuinely enjoyed. When she retired in 2023 and moved with her husband to Minnesota, she found herself in a new state, in a new chapter, without the structure of a job to organize her days around.
She didn't set out to find an online learning platform. She was looking for something much simpler: a way to stay active without joining a gym. She clicked through the many topics offered, and her retirement changed.
An artist who had put down her brushes
Kay had studied advertising and design in college, taking art classes seriously and building real skills. Then life happened the way it tends to: a career, a family, years of being busy with everything except the thing she had once loved. Drawing and painting quietly slipped away.
"Raising a family and working full time, I didn't take time to draw and paint for years and years."
