GetSetUp, the leading digital activation and aging platform focused on aging resources and digital literacy for older adults, announced it has achieved compliance with the international Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA — the gold standard for digital accessibility. This means that it will be even easier for learners to access virtual content, programming, and resources that support their health and wellness. The milestone reflects GetSetUp's unwavering commitment to ensuring that every older adult, regardless of ability, can access educational health resources, connect socially, and navigate digital resources with confidence.

With thousands of live and on-demand classes offered monthly and the ability to scale across languages, GetSetUp serves a diverse global community of learners. Now, GetSetUp offers a full WCAG 2.1 AA compliance verified and documented in a third-party Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT). The platform is more accessible than ever to users with visual, auditory, motor, and cognitive disabilities. Ensuring ongoing alignment with our mission to make opportunities available at every stage of life and to people as they age. Utilization continues to grow thanks to access to key digital resources, even for those with digital limitations.

What Accessibility Looks Like in Practice

GetSetUp's WCAG 2.1 AA compliance is maintained across the platform’s layers, but it began even before this latest release. GetSetUp started with older adults teaching their peers on a frictionless, browser-based platform with many ways to access. We advanced last year by using Helen, our AI assistant, to help older adults learn about AI, use it, and find the resources they need. Our latest accessibility highlights include:

  • Full keyboard navigation: Every interactive element, including menus, modals, video players, and live chat, is operable via keyboard, enabling users with motor disabilities to navigate the entire platform with ease.
  • Screen reader support: Semantic HTML5 structure, proper ARIA roles, and descriptive labels ensure compatibility with assistive technologies, so users with visual impairments can fully participate in class discovery and live sessions.
  • Multilingual accessibility: A skip-to-content link appears as the very first element on every page and is able to translated into supported languages, a rare and meaningful detail for a global audience.
  • Contrast and readability: The platform's color palette is engineered to exceed minimum contrast ratios for text and UI elements, with dark mode support that maintains equivalent standards.
  • Motion sensitivity: Animated content automatically respects users' system-level motion-reduction preferences, protecting learners who experience discomfort from visual movement, particularly important for older adults prone to vestibular issues.
  • Error prevention and guidance: Forms across the platform provide clear, descriptive error messages in real time, announced to screen readers immediately, reducing frustration and abandonment for users with cognitive disabilities.
“At GetSetUp, we have always believed that aging should never be a barrier to learning, connection, or opportunity. Accessibility compliance is not a feature, but a fundamental right. When we design for the least able member of our community first, we build something better for everyone.”

— Lawrence Kosick, Co-Founder and President, GetSetUp

Millions of older adults, particularly those in underserved communities, face compounding barriers to accessing health resources, social connections, and lifelong learning. Social isolation, cognitive decline, and poor health literacy are not inevitable; they are addressable with the right tools and partnerships.

GetSetUp's WCAG 2.1 AA compliance means that health plans and government agencies can now partner with confidence, knowing their most vulnerable members, those with vision loss, hearing impairment, limited mobility, or cognitive challenges, will have equitable access to every class, resource, and community connection the platform offers.

We are actively seeking partners who share our belief that access to education and community is a determinant of health. GetSetUp is ready to work with:

  • Medicare Advantage and Medicaid health plans seeking to reduce social isolation and improve member health outcomes through evidence-informed programming
  • State and county Area Agencies on Aging (AAAs) are looking to scale accessible digital resources to homebound or mobility-limited seniors
  • Federal agencies and grant programs advancing digital equity and healthy aging initiatives
  • Community health systems and Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) serving diverse older adult populations

GetSetUp classes span health and wellness, technology literacy, financial well-being, creative arts, and social engagement, all designed and delivered with older adults in mind and now accessible to all. The platform's instructor-led format fosters real human connection, combating the epidemic of loneliness that affects one in three older Americans.
