When Estala retired from her long career in human resources, she never imagined she’d become a watercolor artist. But thanks to her Medicare health plan and GetSetUp, she’s now living out a creative dream that was quietly tucked away for years.
“I’d say I’m fulfilling a lifelong dream, but I didn’t think I would,” she shared. “A friend got me back into crafting and creative mode, and once I got on Medicare, my insurance included SilverSneakers. That’s how I found GetSetUp.”

“I do a lot, and I’m home a lot,” she explained. “The exercise classes have definitely helped my health and wellness. I’ve done a few different programs to get jump-started, Tai Chi, balance training, and especially the fall prevention classes.”

“With the technology, it’s given me peace of mind on various things, and with the exercise, it’s given me incentive and some different techniques and movements.”
Art, Creativity, and a New Chapter
One of Estala’s proudest accomplishments has been growing as an artist. For the past eight years, she’s been making greeting cards as a way to stay creative and give back.
“In the last year, I’ve decided to get out and do more with my art,” she said. “Now I’m watercoloring the greeting cards and taking steps to go to my first craft fair next month. Beyond gifting my cards to friends and family, I’ve been donating them to organizations that provide care and kindness to those needing support, but this is something different.”

For future programming, Estala hopes to see more interactive discussion sessions and in-depth explorations of specific topics, especially in creative classes.
“It would be nice to have more sessions that are two-way conversations and go more in-depth. People have different questions, and sometimes beginners need more support.”
