Rafael Z. from Argentina is embracing movement and finding joy in everyday activities.

"If one thing I learned these past years is that you can't stay still. You need to be in constant movement; it's not about how much you can do but about what you do,"

shares Rafael Zuchowicki, a widower living in Argentina. After losing his wife 11 years ago and with his children grown up, Rafael had to find ways to fill his time. He turned to activities like cycling, walking, and taking English courses. But it was Pilates, encouraged by his daughter, that became a significant part of his routine.

Discovering Pilates and Its Benefits

Pilates initially served as a distraction for Rafael, but it quickly became more. "Pilates helped me understand that my body is not the same as years ago, and that's okay," he says. At first, Rafael tried to keep up with the younger participants in his class, but he soon realized that he needed to exercise at his own pace. "I needed to do the exercises at my own pace, and that is something I greatly enjoy," he reflects. Now, he goes to Pilates twice a week, finding joy and satisfaction in moving at a rhythm that suits him.

Staying Active and Giving Back

Beyond Pilates, Rafael loves riding his bike through the city. "I usually go to the Rosedal on Saturdays with my bike," he says, describing one of his favorite weekend activities. But Rafael's active lifestyle isn't just about physical exercise—he's also dedicated to giving back. He volunteers at the Beethoven Foundation, an organization that broadcasts significant operas like those from the Metropolitan Opera of New York. As the "Che pibe" (office boy) of the foundation, Rafael finds happiness in contributing, even in small ways.

Rafael's philosophy on life is simple yet profound:

"You are a human being who walks, who breathes, who looks, and who hears, MOVE."

This advice encapsulates his belief in the importance of staying active, both physically and mentally, no matter your age.

Rafael’s story highlights the significance of maintaining physical activity and social engagement as essential components of a healthy and fulfilling life.
