any of America's most scenic routes are also the shortest.

If you're an adventurer looking for a quick getaway, try one of these short but sweet routes:

Alaska Railroad Coastal Classic

If youÔÇÖre looking for a train trip that will make you feel like youÔÇÖre experiencing the Alaskan wilderness, this is the trip for you.

On board the Alaska Railroad Coastal Classic, you can see glaciers and mountains and wildlife as well as the Inside Passage, the Pacific Ocean, Prince William Sound, Gulf of Alaska and Kenai Peninsula.

The trains are open-air cars that give passengers 360 degree views of their surroundings. The railroad also offers special events such as photo car rides and private charters.

Grand Canyon Railway

Grand Canyon Railway is a short trip that takes you from Williams to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. It's one of many scenic train rides in the U.S., but if you're looking for something that's relatively close to home and won't require a lot of planningÔÇöthis may be it!

The train winds through some breathtaking scenery: mountains, forests, canyons, and even herds of bison. If you travel during spring or fall when wildflowers are blooming along parts of this route, it'll be even more beautiful than usual.

This journey will only take about three hoursÔÇöbut in case you want to stay overnight there are plenty of hotels near the train station or at other locations along its route (like Flagstaff)

Cape Cod Excursion Train

The Cape Cod Excursion Train is a journey through the Cape Cod Canal, which is recognized as one of the best snowmobile trails in New England. The train travels from Hyannis to South Dennis on an excursion that includes stops at Woods Hole and Vineyard Haven. It also visits several charming towns, including West Barnstable and Sandwich, where you can take a tour of local museums or enjoy lunch at an authentic clam shack.

The Cape Cod Central Railroad's vintage passenger cars provide a relaxing trip through Massachusetts' countryside. You'll enjoy scenic views of cranberry bogs, salt marshes, cranberry bogs and apple farms along the way (you may even spot some wildlife). If you want to travel by rail but not go too far off-road, this is your ticket!

Great Smoky Mountains Railroad

The Great Smoky Mountains Railroad offers rides between Bryson City and Cherokee, North Carolina. The ride lasts 2.5 hours and is offered on a steam train (the Tsali), a diesel train (the Pickens), or a combination of the two (the Cherokee).

These are just a few of the best train rides in the United States, and each one is sure to leave you with a lasting memory.
