etirement is the time to pursue your passions and hobbies. But for many people, retirement means no more income.
If you’re looking for ways to earn money from your hobbies in retirement, here are some ideas:
If you love to bake, consider selling your baked goods at local farmer's markets or craft fairs. You can sell your baked goods online, too. Sell Your Crafts!
Do you like making crafts? If so, you can make money by selling them online or at craft fairs. If you have any unique items that people would be interested in buying, then it can be worthwhile to invest some time into creating them.
If you're handy with woodworking tools, sell custom furniture on sites like Etsy. If you have an entrepreneurial spirit and enjoy helping others solve problems, consider becoming an independent contractor for other companies that need freelance workers on an as-needed basis.
Become a Tutor.
Become an online tutor. If you have experience teaching or tutoring kids or adults, there are plenty of sites that will pay you for helping others learn new skills.
For example, Tutorful offers hourly rates as high as $50 per hour for tutoring subjects including math and science, while TutorVista pays around $15 per hour for tutors who work with Spanish-speaking students. Or become a teacher at GetSetUp!
Sell Your Photos Online.
If you enjoy taking photos and sharing them with friends and family members, then it might be worth putting some time into learning more about photography so that you can start selling photos online as well. There are plenty of websites where people buy and sell photographs with no upfront cost involved on your part (for example, Shutterstock).
The internet has opened up a whole new world of opportunities for writers, but it can be hard to find paid work if you don’t know where to look. Online content mills such as Contently and Media Bistro offer freelance writing jobs with the opportunity for more lucrative assignments later on. You could also try sites like Upwork, which offers short-term contracts with established brands and companies looking for content creators.
Whether you're interested in photography, painting, writing, or any other hobby that could make an interesting source of income, it's a good idea to give this a shot once you retire.
It doesn't have to be your primary source of income. Just something fun that can chip in a bit to help pick up the slack in your retirement years.
