Key Takeaways:

Author, nutrition expert, and GetSetUp Guide Ravina on how she and her husband met and what she loves most about him.

To celebrate Valentine’s Day, we’ve asked members of the GetSetUp community to share their love stories. And we thought, who better to ask about romance than GetSetUp Guide and author of “The Art of Senior Dating”, Ravina Chandra. She shares how she met her husband and what she loves most about him.

How did you meet your husband?

Our mutual love for the movies is how we met. This common interest had us talking for hours about films on our first date, something that also kept our nerves calmed. We each described similar stories of going to the movies by ourselves, at the big theater (the best way to see a movie!) We are proud to say that we met online through an online app. I always joke that my husband would have never started a conversation with me if we’d bumped into each other at say, a movie, as he is just too shy! Our first date, after talking via email, was a walk around our beautiful city of Victoria BC. After walking and talking for at least a few hours, we both still wanted to see a movie so we headed to the theater and the rest is history! You are probably wondering what movie we saw? ‘Begin Again’ is a comedy/drama with Mark Ruffalo and Keira Knightley. It was the perfect movie as it involved lots of music which we discovered was also a mutual love of ours.

What do you love most about your husband?

What I love the most about my spouse is his consistent optimism. No matter when I ask him how he’s doing, he always responds with a triumphant “great”, “amazing” or “really well thanks!” I suspect, even if he wasn’t feeling at his absolute best, by responding in such a positive manner, this is sure to improve his mood!

What’s the most romantic thing he’s ever done?

The most romantic thing my spouse has done for me and has continued to do since we’ve met is to create his own paper cards to give me for every occasion. In fact, I don’t think he has ever purchased me a card. I have beautiful creations for my birthday, Christmas, and of course, Valentine’s, and I have saved every card. Not only does he pick out beautiful, bright colors for his cards, but the text and designs he adds are brilliant. There is nothing common about his cards, always unique and representing the recent times we’ve shared. For example, there have been many cat-shaped cards to reflect my love of cats and I remember a Hawaiian flower-shaped card for when we went to Hawaii for my birthday. He calls his style “Kindergarten chic.” Did I tell you he is also a very funny guy?
